As my parents were gone for Christmas, in Provo with my brother, his wife, and thier first grandson, we celebrated a little Christmas tonight. I am sometimes taken aback at the insensitivity and selfishness of people in the world. I seem to get a larger does than most people, teaching high school during the day, and waiting tables at night. =) That seems like a silly thing to mention in reference to Christmas and my family, but it was the preface to what I really want to illustrate about my parents. You see, while they were gone, we did our best to celebrate Christmas anyways…we opened all the presents and dirtied lots of dishes…but tonight, my Mom made us a wonderful meal, Santa brought more gifts for everyone and refilled our stockings, and it felt even more like Christmas than Christmas. You see, my parents are the reason that I’m not insensitive and selfish. They never taught me outright. They never said anything aloud. They simply set an example. They simply demonstrated kindness and generosity of time, talents, and resources. I don’t remember learning that I should counter to people in the grocery store, but I do. Thanks Mom and Dad! Shoot… it’s really so unfair! I know that the world would be a better place if more parents were like mine! I hope that all ya’ll have had a great new years! Although really, it has only just begun!
*hugs*
