two miles

January 9th, 2006 by admin

A year and a half ago I completed a marathon (that’s 26.2 miles folks). I say complete because it’s the only verb that seems appropriate. I didn’t run the whole thing. I didn’t meet my goal. Still, after completing the marathon, my goals changed, and in retrospect I could see that the preparation for such a day was really the hardest part. This is a photo of me crossing the finish line.

Today I ran two miles. That’s not really a big deal, but it was a big deal for a different reason. Before I ran to meet a goal, to get to the end of my daily mileage. Today I ran to run. Sure, there’s a goal at the end this time too, but I NEEDED to run today. I needed to work out my frustrations a step at a time on the pavement. I needed to just go, and move, and feel. It felt great…and when I returned home, I felt both victory and defeat. The best things in life contain sour and sweet, huh?
*shakes head* *mutters* two miles. Keep watching folks… the time will come when I make my goal: RUNNING a marathon sub 4 hours. =) Not a tremendous task for someone who likes to run, or is built to run, or is good at training…I am none of those. =)
I sub for a sweet man the next three days at Lewis and Clark High School. I love subbing at LC! The students are the best, and I always feel like I’m walking into someplace special.
Later kids.
squeeze someone.
