The holidays and felted sweaters

Ok- so I have a weakness for anything holiday. I like apple cider and Christmas music and cinnamin smelling pine cones. It’s no wonder then that I have had a love affair for several years with the Gap holiday sweater. They are to me the perfect expression of the beauty and warmth and coziness and excitement and overpsending of the season. I even own two of them. My sister Julia gifted me the most perfect Gap stripey sweater of all time a few Christmases ago, and my parents blessed me with a Gap gift card that I used for the second sweater- one of those thick wool ones with the built in neck warmers. mmmmm…..

So it’s no wonder that when I see a fair isle or stripey Gap sweater of holiday fame dumped at a thrift store I MUST rescue it- even if it has been mistakingly felted by it’s previous owner. I have accumulated quite a nice collection of sweaters that will never fit me, with the intention of doing something creative with them someday. Well folks, today is someday. Actually, it was yesterday.

I took this stack of lovely sweaters and turned them into lush holiday stockings! yay! They are available in my etsy shop…with more coming in the next day or two. I have to admit, I have two sweaters that I just couldn’t bear to cut up: one is an exact replica of the afformentioned perfect Gap stripey, (but not given to me by my sister and thus, less magical) that will serve as a backup. The second is a beautiful red-&-teal-striped-three-quarter-sleeved-delicious-wonder that is an Extra Large….always too big- but I’m hoping that I can put it to good use this winter being pregnant and all. I’ll have to test it out on the belly before making the final call.

Much love I give to all ya’ll!

xo elle!

p.s. who wouldn’t love these sweaters? See how magical they are?!

Christmas night

and kisses
