an evening in Mobile, Alabama

February 15th, 2009 by admin

Last night Garth and I visited the rainiest city in the continental United States to take part in the Mardi Gras celebrations of the first city to celebrate it in the US: Mobile, AL.

We parked right next to the parade route (which made for great fun when it was time to leave) and Garth had to help me tie my shoes. We ate at McDonald’s (I got a Hello Kitty watch in my Happy Meal!) and parked out bums along Government Street where the parade passed by twice. It was a nice warm night and we caught a handful of beads, a moon pie, and peanuts. We’d love to make our way to New Orleans next week for the other Mardi Gras (ssshhh! the real one, but don’t say that while you’re in Mobile!), but I don’t think that my Doctor would like it very much if I spent a day or two three hours away, in those crowds, being this pregnant. It’s definatley on our list of things to do before we leave Pensacola. (also on the list: Birmingham, Atlanta, and a swampy-alligator-bayou-tour). Of course, not going this year means that we’ll need to tackle Mardi Gras 2010 with a one year old…there’s always something.

Pictures because I love you….
