It’s time. Mr Jack has been watching us intently when we eat and he’s old enough to hold a spoon- so we’ve decided that he should be trying solid foods. About a month ago we sat him down, bibbed him up and got the camcorder rolling- and he just mushed everything around in his mouth, made funny faces, and spit everything out. Last night we tried again and not only did he push the rice cereal (smells like elementary school paste!) around in his mouth and swallow it, he also grabbed the spoon and fed himself! We know he’s an overachiever, but we never expected that he’d be feeding himself at 5 months. We were just thinking about modifying our expectations and asking Jack to change his own diaper at 7 months, when the spoon that he’d been holding, covered in food, tried entering his mouth through his nose and eyes, rice cereal flung every which way.
This afternoon he did the same thing- insiting that he hold the spoon and feed himself- until he shoved the spoon too far in and just about gagged. Oh, the mashed peas and strained carrots that are in our future….
Exciting things are happening- expect a big announcement Monday morning-ish, and teasers the next few days.
Now, we are just about off to the market (and class)
