Dear Mr. Muffin Pants,

December 20th, 2009 by admin

9 months? no way! You are growing everyday! We see you learning new things and taking risks everyday and we try to keep one step ahead of you.

what are you doing there?

You came with us to Atlanta for a craft show. You and I squeezed into the back seat of our tiny vw convertable with the bow ties and books, and your Dad drove the 6 hours in the dark. You wore a bow tie during the show and took naps under our table.

Vroom!

There were lots of firsts this month: your first ride in one of those shopping carts built like race cars. Your first Southern Weddings magazine. Your first Thanksgiving (we made you an Indian hat, and kept feeding you cranberry sauce just to watch your face scrunch).

Pensacola Beach

The weather here in Pensacola has been really strange this last month. We’ve had you all bundled up in fleece and mittens, and just a few days later, in just a t-shirt and diaper. We took our Christmas photos on the beach wearing sweaters and scarves in 70 degree weather. You wanted to play in the sand but we couldn’t let you because your current idea of playing with always includes your slobber and your mouth, and you don’t know this yet, but sand+slobber = mud. Yuck.

In trying to stay one step ahead of you we dropped down the bed in your crib (with only about a week to spare- you are now pulling yourself up to stand inside and bite those rails whenever we put you in there), and created an entire room for you to crawl around in. The playroom is where you and I spend about half of the day. There are large amounts of blocks and letters and toys for you to play with, yet you always reach for whatever it is that I am working on- usually involving scissors and pins.

You’re really interested in paper and like to chew on it, much to our dislike. You absolutely hate it when we have to search for clumps of it in your mouth with our fat fingers. We’ve started giving you cloth to chew on as it won’t fall prey to your serious saliva like paper does. We also hand you one of those foam numbers and you love to chew away on those. When your two little front teeth rub up against that rubbery substance a squeek is produced. We hear it in church. squeeky squeeky squeek. We hear it while walking through Target. squeek. And we hear it while you chatter away to yourself in your crib in the morning. squeeky squeek da da da la squeek. Totally entertaining.

oh those socks!

You sure are moving around pretty fast these days. You’ve always loved playing with (slobbering on) the camera, but now you are fast enough to get to it before I can take a picture (the broken auto-focus helps you out… you are so very hard to focus on manually when you move like lightning. (you do have a cousin who’s middle name is lightning….)) so I end up with lots of artful motion shots. Not that there’s any shortage of pictures of you. There will be plenty of pictures to show your future dates when they come over for dinner.

Thanks for being such a great kid Mr danger. Your little laugh has gained some robustness this month and the number of places that you are ticklish has increased. I only see it getting better and better from here. Thanks for chilling in the crib in the mornings, giving me an extra 30 minutes of sleep. Thanks for liking shopping so much that we both always enjoy it (unless you’re hungry). And thanks for sharing your cheerioes with me every morning.

tickles on those ticklish parts,
mama

I love it when you “talk” to me on the phone, Mr. Danger. A cute boy with a cleft chin who breathes heavy in the phone.
