No stuffed “I’m bannanas for you!” bright red monkeys here (although I was caught in line behind dozens of people last night purchasing them- I just needed some butter!). I didn’t purchase something for Garth this year…we sure value making here in the elle & gee world and so I spent last night and this morning making him something so ridiculous. It’s currently resting on our bed with a letter “G” placed on it so Garth will know that it’s for him when he wakes up. Since you folks are up this early (it’s Saturday, ya know!) I’ll let you have the sneak peek. =)

I used a heart tin that I gave Garth last year and Wilton Silicone bakeware hearts. The top row is Rice Krispy Treats with a little bit of dark rasberry chocolate Kisses melted on top. The next row is a batch of truffles made with this recipe. The two on the sides are dipped in holiday sprinkles and the heart in the middle is dipped in chili powder (Garth will love it!). The next row is made of these cookies from the Bakerella blog (although I used chocolate cake mix instead of red velvet), and the last row is another truffle. The letters are marshmallow fondant (the fondant recipe I swear by is here!) tinted red and pink and cut out using Wilton fondant cutters (as everything was to create the heart shapes).

The best part about a project like this is getting chocolate on your fingers every 10 seconds (oh, and the leftovers in the kitchen (who only makes three cookies in a batch?!) that will be taken to church tomorrow…..maybe).

I hope Garth wakes up slowly and doesn’t knock the thing onto the floor. =)

Happy Saint Valentine’s everyone- may love reign!

I’m not quite sure how this happened. I made some dough from my Mom’s famous scone recipe, made four scones for me and the hubby, and then put the rest of the dough in one of those silicone baking pans to make a loaf of bread. It rose to just about the top of the pan and I put it into the oven. 45 minutes later it was about ready to touch the top of the next rack! It grew 4 or 5 inches taller than the pan, and since it was a silcone pan, it grew wider as well.

We had monster toast for breakfast this morning, and kisses. =)

Pregnancy does not make me crave strange foods. As a vegetarian I wondered how I would handle a fried chicken craving (and how my body would handle it having been on a vegetarian diet for 8 years now!), but the opposite has been true. I haven’t wanted to eat some of my favorite foods. Most food does not sound appetizing. I eat now because I should, not because I enjoy it. However, yesterday, my lunch made me laugh. It was something that the typical pregnant woman would probably crave, but it’s simply a meal that I’ve enjoyed since sharing it often with my roommate after school when I attended Ricks College the 1998-1999 school year. It was a hearty slice of whole wheat bread, spread with a generous amount of cream cheese, then topped with sliced cheddar and provolone cheeses, and finally sliced pickles. The whole thing was broiled in an oven till the cheese bubbles. mmmmmm….

I should be eating more…I’ve only gained two pounds so far. Yikes. However, my belly is progressing nicely. I’m still just looking rather chubby, but Garth and I have confidence that it will turn into something more substantial in the near future. Our ultrasound is coming in a few weeks and we’ll be able to start saying ginger or danger rather than baby when referencing my belly.

Now I’m off to be a good pregnant lady and eat some more. I’m making crepes! mmmmm…..

loves,
elle aye you are aye

a girl at work who has only known me for a few weeks commented to me the other day that I was “just like Martha”. *grin* It was simply an observation by her, but I took it as a compliment. And tonight– I felt like it too! Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and, as is tradition, I take lots of yummy cookies to work with me- so, I had to make them tonight…but with me, joy is in the details, so these are not your ordinary chocolate chip cookies on paper plates. =) I made chocolate mint brownies, and rasberry truffles, and cranberry sour cream outmeal bars, and merangue and ganauche little sandwich thingies. They all taste good, but they look fantastic! Shoot, I love being all housewife-ish….if only I could find a husband! =) Enjoy your Christmas Eve all ya’ll!!!!!
