Is it fall yet?
It must be close because I purchased fresh apple cider and Martha Stewart’s Halloween Handbook at the grocery store this week. I took advantage of some free time on the front porch today and devoured both- the cider in my favorite mug. I love the photographs in Martha’s publications. Below are just a few of my favorite ideas. Carved and withered apples, organic evening wear and striped tights on little girls (certainly one of the top ten reasons to raise little girls). It is a “best of” issue so there’s nothing new, but it’s still a lovely collection of ideas.

ok, back to work for me- it’s costume season.

Sorry about the long absence. I’ve been laying in bed wishing that I could hybernate for the next 6 months, when my body will go back to “normal”. I’m up and about today and wanted to share with you two things that have my made my day (I’m rather easy to please these days).
Spice drops and popcorn balls. Both remind me my Mom and the fall, two things that I love. =) You know I’d share with you if you were within car-riding distance.

Usually about this time in August I am wondering where the summer went and feeling a little sad that the “back to school” sales have started.

Not this year.

I am annoyed that there are 31 days this July because it means that I’m one day farther away from fall. why, oh why, am I so eager for fall to come around? Simple. It’s not hot. I’ll be able to walk outside and enjoy the lovely homes and streets in my neighborhood without feeling instantly sticky and dehydrated. I can wear sweaters. I’ll be past the nothing-sounds-appetizing-all-water-tastes-
disgusting-breathless-from-walking-to-the-kitchen first-trimester part of this pregnancy, and maybe be able to pull myself out of bed before noon. School starts so I can start subbing again, or maybe have a “real” job, if I’m lucky. Halloween is closer, and we all know that that means costumes and candy and caramel apples and Burton movies, all things that I adore.

I hope all ya’ll are not like me and are enjoying every last ounce of this sweltering summer. May your ice cream sandwiches melt slowly.
loves,
elle
