Little Mister Danger turns five weeks old today. He fits neatly into our little family like a puzzle piece.

This last week he started smiling and Garth and I have been employing all of the embarrassing skills that we know to draw them out of him- because as you all know- baby smiles are pure heaven. I will sit with him and make comic book fighting noises as I repeatedly punch his little hand into my cheek until I can get him to giggle. “Pow!” “bam!” “kuchawww!” and then in a high voice: “punch! punch! punch!”. I also wipe smudges off of his face with my saliva, say things like, “does Mr Jack have a poopy diaper?” in a sugary sweet singsong voice, and constantly converse and consult with him throughout the day as if he could understand me. All of this makes me realize that motherhood and I are not as much like oil & water as I thought we’d be. In fact, I bet if you asked her, she would say that although we only met five weeks ago, we are already like old friends. And if you asked me, I would say that motherhood and I feel like twins that were separated at birth and recently reunited. We are getting along just swimmingly.
